Some comments from Brian Smith – VP Exploration, Heritage Oil Plc
“At Heritage we recognise that we have specific responsibilities in areas in which we work and we strive to support the development in those local communities. Our corporate and social responsibility programme is wide ranging but always focuses on the needs of these communities. We have, amongst other things, provided equipment for schools in Kurdistan, built a school in Uganda, repaired roads and sponsored individuals to attend university.
We are proud to be associated with “the UAECC team” and to have sponsored them in the 2008 UAE Desert Challenge. This was a gruelling challenge and the four guys involved excelled themselves in riding over 2,200 kilometres in “the Empty Quarter” and raising a significant amount of money for deserving causes in the process.
The help for the Malaria Consortium was very close to our hearts as we have operations in Uganda. THE UAE charity funded a distribution programme of Long Life Insecticide treated Nets (“LLIN”) near the vicinity of one of our operated Blocks. Heritage also provided all the logistical support to the LLIN distribution programme which included trucking from Entebbe to Lake Albert, boats to access remote villages and flights for Malaria Consortium personnel. Prior to the distribution programme only 10% of the parish owned a LLIN and 100% coverage was achieved subsequently.
We are pleased to continue with our sponsorship of the programme and wish every success to those involved.”
